Activities Calendar
Indulge yourself in a wide array of planned enrichment programs, activities and events, as much or as little as you like. The choice is yours. Enjoy a concert, sculpt or paint in our art studio, wake up to an exercise or yoga class, attend a lecture series, sing in our choir, join our book club, or participate in many of our outings to the theater, museum, and other local attractions.
Art Program and Artist in Residence
Under the direction of Betty Rothaus, MFA, the "Discover the Artist Within" Program provides classroom, individual and bedside opportunities for budding resident artists to explore a variety of artistic expressions. Our award winning Program has been heralded as one of the most outstanding Art Programs in the country.
Many residents who come to the Art Program have never picked up a brush or tried charcoal and chalk drawing. With Betty's tutelage, many residents go on to have their works displayed on the walls of RCJL, in the local community and, for example, the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco through the Elder Arts Program.
The joy of creation and the receipt of applause has given many of our Residents the boost they needed to make the days at RCJL purposeful and highly rewarding.
Spiritual Programs & Congregation Sh’ma Kolenu
Caring for the spiritual and religious needs of our residents is essential to their continued well being. Our spiritual leader, Rabbi Debora Kohn conducts weekly Shabbat and holiday services, guides and supports residents and families through life-cycle events, offers spiritual and religious programming and classes, and provides spiritual guidance. In addition, as a full time member of our staff, she is very involved in the care planning of residents and partners with social services and all staff to ensure that the spiritual needs of our residents are met.
Sh’ma Kolenu, our on-site synagogue, provides a beautiful and tranquil setting for services, prayer chanting classes and meditation. The walls are adorned with hand-made stained glass windows and our Tree of Life where we celebrate life’s events providing warm and welcoming surroundings to all.
Amenities
Beauty Salon/Barber Shop
Located at RCJL our residents enjoy being pampered at our salon that offers an array of services including hair, nails, and pedicures.
Café
Sit down and relax in our café while visiting with family and friends. Our café offers a variety of snacks and beverages and is open 24 hours a day.
Computer Center
Our Computer Center allows residents to keep in touch with loved ones via email and utilize all that the Internet has to offer. Volunteers assist residents with computer use and our computers are equipped with large print keyboards.
Concierge Services
A high level of service is provided for individual needs of RCJL residents through our Concierge. A general resource to residents and families, the Concierge schedules doctor appointments, transportation, maintenance and housekeeping requests, and answers general questions and concerns.
Gift Shop
Our on-site gift shop, operated by community volunteers, offers various sundry needs as well as unique gifts and snacks. It also provides a friendly atmosphere where friends gather to browse and visit with one another.
Laundry and Housekeeping
Residents enjoy a relaxing lifestyle free from the responsibilities of housekeeping. Residential suites are cleaned and maintained, and receive pick up and delivery laundry services twice a week. For those residents who prefer to do their own laundry, facilities are located on each floor of the community.
Library
RCJL has two libraries, one Jewish and the other general, that offer a wide array of reading material for our residents including a collection of large print books. Newspapers are delivered daily for the enjoyment of our residents. The library is a popular morning gathering place to catch up on the world around us.
Mail Center
Our Mail Center provides individual mailboxes for residents in Independent and Assisted Living; mail for Sukkat Shalom (Skilled Nursing) and Tradition (Alzheimer and other dementia) residents is hand delivered by our staff.
Meals in Main Dining Room and Bistro
Dining at RCJL is an experience to enjoy. Savor the fine kosher cuisine served daily in our open and inviting main dining room featuring restaurant style service, an attentive staff, and a menu offering a wide selection of dining options. Our salad bar offers a healthy and lighter alternative for lunch and our Sunday brunch is a favorite destination for families visiting RCJL. Shabbat dinner is joyously celebrated with traditional faire and white linens adorn our tables. Shabbat candles flicker as residents enjoy dining with friends and family. Sample Menu
Telephones & Television Access
All accommodations are equipped with telephone service, cable TV, and the RCJL TV station that airs special events, Shabbat services, evening movies, and a listing of daily events.
Transportation
RCJL provides local scheduled transportation to doctor appointments, shopping, and special events. Weekly lunch at the Contra Costa JCC or an evening trip to the theatre or concert are offered.
Outdoor Living
Surrounded by beautiful gardens and hills, our walking paths and patio areas provide residents with gracious outdoor living amenities to enjoy warm summer days and the crisp air and foliage of autumn.
